This is a digital painting of the Jolly Roger flag done by myself to help promote the up coming Canada's History Issue about Pirates. You can see how it is used on our website here http://www.canadashistory.ca/Magazine.aspx you will have to scroll through the main image slide to find it. I am going to refine it over the next couple of days and turn it into a desktop so stay tuned to Canada's History so you can download it.

Progress shot of a painting I am working on the background is done in gouache and the base layers have been laid down in oil, still a ways to go with this one. the skin tones need to be added and a stronger sense of light and dark in the main character needs to be established. I have another in the works as well that I will post shortly.
Hope everybody is enjoying their long weekend.
I am healing nicely from hitting a car that cut me off on Wednesday. Lesson for everybody. Wear a helmet it will save your life.

Here is where I am with the 2" x 2" Peter Pan portraits. I still have some work to do on Tiger Lily and Peter. Wendy and Hook are almost done. I and I have to deal with Tink and maybe have to redo Micheal and John. I may still be able to save that one.
Beth has packed these away, we are moving into our new house in June so I may not get to visit these for a while. That is OK I'm working away on my Folk Fest paintings. I will let you know when I am done with painting these small pieces, I am not doing something this small again unless I do it digitally. To hard on the eyes. Those guys who paint on rice are crazy!
I'll post how things are going with the folk fest paintings and that Forks Park illustration soon. Unfortunately my awesome desk top computers hard drive crapped out on me. I should get it back next week. maybe with the files that were on it intact... Maybe not. We shall see.

I was out snapping some shots for Canada's History today and I came across an illustration I did last year of a concept for the Forks playground they are looking to construct. I'm pretty Jazzed. It occurs to me I never posted it on Kalamafraz. I will try and post a unobstructed superior quality version soon.

Here is the digital painting.
Done entirely in photoshop, it turned out far better than I anticipated. Scot my brother-in-law is very happy with it. I'll post when we get the poster information onto this.

Here is the First Sketch I did. It is much more simple in concept and I think it works well in establishing the setting of the play. I really like this sketch I have become a much larger fan of pen and ink sketches. There is something about the thrill of not being able to go back and erase. Commitment to a decision and the problem solving of when you put a line down where it ought not go.
I promise you in the next couple of days to post the Digital painting I did. I know most of you are shaking with anticipation.
Wait my pretties, wait and you will be rewarded.
I've dug back into my folk fest paintings and it feels good to be painting with oil again, I stalled on those Peter pan oils I was doing because they are F*cking small man. I will finish them at some point. I grabbed a snap shot of my progress and I will post that soon as well.
I really want an ipad but I can't justify buying one until they install a facing camera so I can video conference. I'll just have to keep using my Nintendo DS to sketch I like it but it is limited and I would like a larger surface like on the ipad. Oh well I'm saving $600 by not owning one, so that's bonus.
n'uff talking from me for now, please take the time to become a follower of my blog, I have moved the widget up on the left. It will take less than 20 seconds of your time if you have a gmail account.

I realize that I am posting in reverse but here is the second of two conceptual sketches I did for a poster that I am doing for my Brother-in-law. He is currently writing a play for this years Winnipeg Fringe Festival. It is called "The Green Room" and that is the most you are going to get out of me. You will just have to try and gather what it is about from the sketches and the Digital Painting I have completed.
Sorry for not posting for the last month but Beth and I are in the midst of purchasing our very first home, so it has been crazy busy, I know that many of you can relate so I accept your forgiveness.
I'm very pleased with how "The Green Room" painting turned out I can't wait to show it to you all. Oh wait, yes I can and I will.
Forgive me cruel chuckle... mmmooouuuuaaahhhahahahahahah....
